First Solo Show
This certainly is turning out to be the year for Daniel Syrett. Straight after the above show. Daniel will be exhibiting his first solo show at the Ahh! Gallery, at Tower Bridge in London.
Daniel Syrett gains inspiration by the juxtaposition of perceived opposites. He is influenced by repeat-pattern explored during early fashion & textile career. Harshness, delicacy, status, power, and human frailty, creating mesmerist optics for us to consider from popular culture. He is keen to ensure the viewer is included in the interpretation, making his work easily accessible and well-liked.
Born in England, graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a B.A. (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles. He created fabric designs for International fashion houses, now an influence evident in his individual take “Skulls” and “Butterflies” collections.
“I like to take an image that is already charged and familiar, then manipulate it so it becomes something we all perceive, yet need to explore further.”
Butterflies collection,” A caterpillar dissolves into a 'soup' of cells, & somehow these know how to rearrange themselves into a totally different-shaped-creature. It's that bit which fascinates me. Contemporary culture metamorphoses itself constantly, and now, in particular we need a fresh take on the familiar.”
Altermodern? You decide
His current works draw inspiration from the contemporary economic crisis. “Now we have rejuvenate our vision of our heritage in all past expressions,” says Daniel. “I’ve used British totemic figures and subverted them to illustrate the contemporary tone screaming form the walls, the viewer has created the content, I am just the conduit bringing what is already out there together.”
