Daniel Syrett graduated from university with a fashion degree, which has had a massive impact on Daniel’s work. Daniel Syrett was born in England, graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a B.A. (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles. He went on to produce fabric designs for International fashion houses, an influence clearly discernible in his distinctive “Skulls” and “Butterflies” collections.
“I like to take an image which people have strong feelings about and manipulate it so it becomes something else, something unexpected.” he says. “My Butterflies collection best illustrates that chrysalis process.” Daniel remains heavily influenced by the repeat pattern designs of his early fashion career and gains inspiration by the juxtaposition of perceived opposites, such as life and death, harshness and delicacy, strength and weakness, creating mesmeric optical illusions in the process.
Daniel Syrett has previously returned to his old university to lecture students, and has also been a visiting lecturer at both the Jacob Kramer College in Leeds and the University of Wales in Cardiff.
